Films to Get Excited About: The Invention of Lying, An Education, and Where the Wild Things Are
The Invention of Lying: opening in theaters Oct. 2, 2009
Directed by: Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson
Starring: Ricky Gervais, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Rob Lowe
Ever since The Office (UK), I have loved Ricky Gervais. His work on Extras was brilliant and he is slowly breaking into US feature films. This film is sure to be hilarious.
An Education: opening in limited release in theaters Oct. 9, 2009
Directed by: Lone Scherfig
Starring: Peter Sarsgaard, Carey Mulligan, Alfred Molina, Dominic Cooper, Rosamund Pike and Emma Thompson
Carey Mulligan was adorable in her first feature film, Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley, as Kitty so I’m excited she’s working those acting chops. Plus, with an all-star cast like Sarsgaard, Cooper, Thompson and Molina the movie is bound to achieve critical praise.
Where the Wild Things Are: opening in theaters Oct. 16, 2009
Directed by: Spike Jonze
Starring: Catherine Keener and Mark Ruffalo
Voiced by: James Gandolfini, Catherine O’Hara and Forest Whitaker
As one of my favorite books growing, I was worried that the film would be too cartoonish and wouldn’t capture the magnitude of its content. However, based on the trailer, we can already see the dark undertones and the harrowing themes present in the book. I think Spike Jonze will do the it justice. Plus, the soundtrack is going to rock.
